The Public Service Co-ordinating Bargaining Council (PSCBC) General Secretary, Mr Frikkie De Bruin, would like to express his deepest sympathies to the Skweyiya family on behalf of the Council.
The PSCBC is saddened to hear of the passing of Cde. Skweyiya who was the founding Minister of the Department of Public Service and Administration in former president Nelson Mandela’s Cabinet and thereafter the Minister of Social Development during Thabo Mbeki’s administration. He always served unselfishly and prioritised the needs of our people by providing quality service delivery to previously disadvantaged communities. Cde. Skweyiya played a pivotal role in establishing the White Paper on the Transformation of the Public Service which changed the engineering of the public service by putting the needs of people first in terms of the Batho Pele Principles. Though described by some as a “gentle giant”, he was a tough negotiator who was never afraid to speak his mind.
The PSCBC would like to express its deepest condolences to the Skwyiya family on the passing of our dear Cde. Skweyiya. May his soul attain eternal bliss!!!
